Bo-bette’s Feast

A play on the title of the 1987 film “Babette’s Feast,” Bo-bette’s Feast started from the idea of the film that a meal can nourish more than just the stomach. I want to craft a meal around a central concept that sparks conversation beyond the meal itself, nourishing social intimacy.

Coquette aesthetics follow the trend of young women reclaiming aspects of their youth. Bows are central to the coquette aesthetic and can be dainty, cute, or binding. For many generations, bows have been a staple in girl’s fashion and accessories. Considering how quickly trends die, I’m intrigued by the longevity of bows and the ties that connect us.

I’ve designed and created each product for a single table setting and plan to make a full set for a dinner event. I will create a digital companion to track how long the products last, over the course of the dinner and after the meal, on a spectrum of ephemeral to eternal.
